Kikyou
Kikyou is the most controversial woman of this show. InuYasha fans just love to hate her. I didn’t know about her for awhile and when I did I hated her too. After watching the show from the beginning and truly paying attention to Kikyou I began to see things differently. Kikyou is now my favorite Anime character.
Kikyou can be a very sweet, kind and caring woman. Even the resurrected Kikyou still helps out villagers and people in need. Now onto the reasons people hate Kikyou
She tried to kill InuYasha when she was ressurected
She had just been resurrected. Fifty years had passed for the living but she was not around for that so for her and InuYasha the tragedy is still fresh. She died believing he betrayed her so she still wanted revenge and she did say she was going to go back in Kagome afterwards.
She's dead
Kikyou is dead but she did not choose to be that way. She said before InuYasha called her name to not call her name. She did not want to be brought back. She should have remained in Kagome but once he said her name it caused her soul to be released and for her to relive those painful memories. This is one of the worst reasons to me.
She tried to drag InuYasha to Hell
To me she was very desperate at that point. She’s dead and to her the only way they could still be together was in Hell. She still didn’t really understand who Kagome was at that point. She didn’t exactly force him either.
She was quick to turn against InuYasha
As to what happened fifty years ago I hate to play the blame game but of course most of it was Naraku’s fault but a lot of it was InuYasha’s too. He was attacked by a fake Kikyou and the first thing he does is steal the Shikon no Tama making him look guilty when the real Kikyou sees him. Kikyou had told him she would never call him a hanyou again. The fake Kikyou calling him hanyou should have made him suspicious.
Kikyou was badly wounded. She was dying so of course she wasn't thinking clearly. InuYasha wasn't even scratched by the fake Kikyou's arrows but he quickly ran off to steal the Shikon no Tama to become a Taiyoukai.
Kikyou thought that InuYasha had planned all along to get her to trust him so he would obtain the Shikon no Tama. When she finally caught up to InuYasha he was running off with the Shikon no Tama so what else was there for her to do? She had to protect the villagers since the fake InuYasha had just threatened to kill them all. But what gets me is that InuYasha has excellent sense of smell but yet he didn’t sense that the person who shot those arrows at him wasn’t Kikyou or that Kikyou was badly wounded. But all InuYasha was thinking about was using the Shikon no Tama to become a Taiyoukai.
She hates Kagome
Of course she hates Kagome. She’s resurrected against her will and forced to see the man she fell in love with fall for her reincarnation. Most would be pissed about that. In the later episodes she has given up InuYasha and is not so bitter towards Kagome anymore.
She tried to kill Kagome
I honestly believe if Kikyou wanted to kill Kagome she would have. She could have easily killed Kagome. There is no "try to" with Kikyou. If anything she wasn trying to manipulate InuYasha and show Kagome that InuYasha still had feelings for her(though I'm pretty sure Kagome already knew that).
She gets in the way of InuYasha and Kagome
Truly, the only one in the way of the Kagome and InuYasha pairing is InuYasha because he cannot choose.
She killed a human in front of a child
Kikyou did not know that Sayo was watching the whole time. She apologized twice to Sayo and left the village. Kikyou was only defending herself. Kikyou was ready to put the heartache of the past behind her when this monk interfered.
Worst Reasons
The worst reason I’ve seen for hating her is people that think she’s ugly. Kikyou can be described as a lot of things but ugly is not one of those things..I've also seen people that bash her for the clothes she wears. She wears what a traditional Shinto Priestess wears. I've heard people say that she stinks. That's the weirdest reason since no one can smell her through the TV.
Closing
So to close this. Kikyou is a very interesting character. She is not a female dog, a slut or mean and spiteful as some people make her out to be. That is why I like her. I love episodes that she’s in because she is very intriguing. I hope that one day she’ll have a happy ending or truly be at peace.
