Tainted Love ... A Kikyou x Naraku Shrine

Kikyou

Kikyou
Kikyou is a miko (Shrine Maiden). She was born a miko and had unusually strong powers. Kikyou and Kaede have never mentioned thier parents so nothing is known about them. Kikyou, Kaede and Tsubaki used to travel by foot all over the country exterminating youkai as wandering miko. Kikyou was teaching her younger sister Kaede to be a very strong miko. Kikyou was a very kind and caring miko. Kikyou main attacks are Hama no Ya, Fuuyin no Ya and she taught her sister both along with teaching her about herbs. Tsubaki around that time placed a curse on Kikyou warning Kikyou to never fall in love and if she does she will die an unnatural death and at the time Kikyou didn't pay heed to the warning because she thought she would never fall in love.

Shikon no Tama (Jewel of the Four Souls)
Kikyou didn't always have the Shikon no Tama. Before she got it, it was inside the same centepide youkai that is responsible for bringing Kagome to the Feudal Era. The centipede youkai was defeated by the exterminators in the youkai exterminator village. The centipede youkai kept regenerating because of the Shikon no Tama. The Shikon no Tama was also tainted because of that youkai. Sango's grandfather Shako decided they would take the Shikon no Tama to a village miko to purify it and that miko ended up being Kikyou. From the scene I watched it doesn't seem like she was given much of a choice. When Kikyou took that burden her destiny changed dramatically.

Meeting InuYasha
The first time she meets InuYasha he doesn't show his face. It's on the night of the new moon and he's a human. She sensed him watching and asked him if he was after the Shikon no Tama and at that time InuYasha didn't know what the Shikon no Tama was. Thier next meeting he did know what it was and came to steal it from her. She easily pinned him to the tree and walked off stating for him to stop making her waste arrows. There's a comment he made to her where he said she would be easy to find because of the smell of youkai blood on her. The comment must have gotten to her a little because Kaede said she began to bathe everyday.

More InuYasha
Their third meeting after pinning him to the tree again Kikyou asked his name. She told him if she knows his name she will never call him a hanyou again. While alive she kept that promise. The next time they meet is after InuYasha saves Kaede from that centipede youkai (That thing just won't die). Kikyou thanks him for saving Kaede and they finally get to talk and this is the scene where she asks him if she seems human to him. InuYasha of course replied sarcastically but when he looked back at Kikyou he truly saw how sad and lonely she was. At the end of thier talk he asked for her to be there tomorrow and that he wanted to give her something. She replied saying she had something to give him. Kikyou was going to give him the rosary and her word was beloved. She even admitted the rosary was an underhanded trick. But when the day came and he gave her the shell with lipstick she couldn't bring herself to give it to him so she lied and said she forgot it. That may have been a bad decision. With the rosary she would have known the guy who killed her wasn't InuYasha. She apologized for the holes she put in his robe when she found out that was also given to him by his deceased mother.

Weakening Powers
From then on Kikyou and InuYasha grew closer but the whole time they were being watched by the youkai that would pursuade Onigumo into selling his soul. Because Kikyou was falling in love her powers weakened. The youkai population grew because of that and Onigumo's evil intentions helped that. Tsubaki wanted the Shikon no Tama and says she could purify it since Kikyou's power was weakening. Tsubaki attempted to take the Shikon no Tama by force but the snake she sent towards Kikyou was sent back into her eye. Naraku also attempted to take the Shikon no Tama by sending a large army of youkai after her. Kikyou arrived late. It was this fight that Kikyou wounded her little sister and is the reason Kaede wears the eye patch.

Promises
After that she was upset about what she had done to Kaede and brought up the idea of InuYasha using the Shikon no Tama to become human. InuYasha agreed because he wanted to spend his life with Kikyou. They thought that if the Shikon no Tama was used for good, it would dissapear and they could be together. But things did not go as planned. Naraku found out and went to her the night before she was going to give InuYasha the Shikon no Tama and said he wanted to be human soon and he couldn't wait. She didn't give it to him because she said the night was rife with evil.

Betrayal
The next day she went to meet InuYasha and was struck from behind and the fake InuYasha broke the shell with the lipstick. The fake InuYasha told her he never intended to become human and live with her. When the fake InuYasha picked up the Shikon no Tama it was immediately tainted and turned dark. He then left her to die after taunting her by saying he would kill the villagers. Naraku quickly changed from his InuYasha disguise to a Kikyou disguise. He shot arrows at InuYasha calling him hanyou repeatedly. I'm sure most know what happens next, InuYasha steals the Shikon no Tama and Kikyou uses the Fuuyin no Ya to seal him to the Goshinboku. She was cremated with the Shikon no Tama so no other evil minded person would use it.

Resurrection
Fifty years later Kikyou is resurrected by a youkai named Urasue who wants to use the miko for her own purpose. The problem is that Kikyou's soul has already reincarnated as Kagome. Urasue kidnaps Kagome for her soul but the spell doesn't work until InuYasha comes to save Kagome but sees Kikyou and says her name. Kikyou was revived full of hatred. She was revived with a body of clay and soil. She told her side of the story of InuYasha betraying her. InuYasha denied it all and that only angered her more because she thought he was just lying. She almost killed him if it wasn't for Kagome recalling her soul.

She left with the remaining soul she was able to keep and fell off a cliff. InuYasha grabbed her arm and asked her to return to Kagome. To Kikyou, he was asking for her to die again so she attempted to kill him once again and he let go of her screaming her name. She isn't seen again until episode 22 and she lives off the souls of dead women. In episode 23 she tries to drag InuYasha into Hell with her. She still didn't believe that InuYasha wasn't responsible. Kagome once again stops her by taking part of her soul. Later in that episode Kikyou talks to her sister and finds out the truth on who killed her.

Lonely Journey
Kikyou is now alone again. She is on a mission to destroy Naraku for what he did to her. She did give Naraku Kagome's shards of the Shikon no Tama because she wants to send him to Hell. She is a bit sad and bitter about the hand fate has dealt her but she won't give up her mission. She still does her miko duties as in helping villagers and she still has her love for children.

Rebirth
Kagome is asked to revive Kikyou by her Shikigami. They tell her she is the only one who can so she does so. Kikyou awakens and doesn't thank her because of the reason Kagome gave for reviving her.

Final Farewell
In a Manga chapter titled "Light" Kikyou leaves for good. Naraku once again kills her. Kagome was very upset at the fact that she could not help Kikyou. InuYasha actually cried while holding Kikyou before she finally passed. I wanted to point that out for people that say since InuYasha has only cried for Kagome it means he only cares for Kagome. He cared for Kikyou and Kagome. The entire InuYasha group including Kouga were unhappy to see her go. Now with Kikyou gone, my interest in the series has gone down dramatically. If you would like to read the Manga go here.
