Young Kaede
Kaede is Kikyou's younger sister. Kaede as a child looked up to and admired her older sister. She wore her hair like her and thought her powers were amazing.
Kikyou taught her the Hama no Ya and Fuuyin no Ya. Kikyou also taught her about medicinal herbs. Kaede woke up one night and saw Kikyou applying the lipstick InuYasha gave her, and thought her sister was beautiful, but Kikyou still looked sad. Kaede did not want Kikyou to take care of the bandit Onigumo because of the things he told her. But her older sister felt pity for the man. Kaede lost her eye due to an attack from youkai sent by Naraku. She lost it while her sister was fighting a youkai that went after her. Kaede never blamed her sister for that, but she could have.
On the day Kikyou left to give InuYasha the Shikon no Tama, Kaede said she wanted Kikyou to stay inside forever. She didn't want Kikyou to leave that day. She didn't tell Kikyou that and Kikyou made up an excuse of looking for better medicinal herbs. That day was the day her older sister died.

Fifty years has passed and Kaede has grown old. She is a very wise old woman. She was the first to realize that Kagome is Kikyou's reincarnation. She also figured out what Naraku's true goal was when he set Kikyou and InuYasha apart. The things she still doesn't have an answer to is why did Kikyou use the Fuuyin no Ya and not the Hama no Ya and kill Inuyasha. Also Kaede wondered if InuYasha was full of hate for Kikyou when he was put to sleep why did have such a peaceful expression.
Present relationship with Kikyou
Kaede doesn't have any sort of relationship with the resurrected Kikyou. Kikyou has reincarnated as Kagome and Kaede knows that. Kaede wants her sister's soul to be at peace and Kaede doesn't think she can be at peace whilst she walks amongst the living.
